Description
John Deacon was born in 1841 near Belfast Ireland, the son of William Deacon and Ann Scott. The family emigrated to Boston, Mass. in 1842 and from there moved to Quebec and finally Toronto. He began teaching at a rural school in Oxford County in 1863. In 1864 he married Frances Allin and they had six children. He returned to the teaching profession in 1869 when he became Principal at Woodstock Public and Model School. In 1885 he became Public School Inspector for Halton County. He purchased the house at 360 Pine Street where he lived during his time in Milton. He died in Toronto at the residence of his son on July 26, 1925.
