Dr. Marshall E. Gowland, 1879-1931

- Dr. Gowland was born in Nelson Township in 1879, the son of George Gowland and Margaret Marshall. He trained as a doctor at the University of Toronto. He married Josephine Partridge, who was a registered nurse, and they had three sons, Gordon, Marshall and Douglas. He was a member of the Milton Council, Medical Officer of Health from 1918 until his death in 1931. He was Jail Surgeon, President of the Halton County Medical Association, a Trustee of the High School Board and President of the Milton Arena Company which was formed to built an ice arena on Brown Street and which opened in 1922. He died in 1931 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery. For further information, see "Milton Area Biographies" by Alex Cooke.
