Description

John Holgate was born in England and came to Quebec as a young child with his parents. In 1842 he married Jane and they moved to Hamilton and then Acton in Ontario. They had thirteen childlren. They came to Milton in the early 1850s. He became a merchant in Milton. He was appointed Town Auditor in 1857 and was a member of the Topwn Council. He left Milton in 1870 and died in 1896 in Toronto. He was survived by his wife , three sons, and five daughters. He was buried in Milton Pioneer Cemetery.
