Donald M. Deacon, 53, MPP (York Centre) announced May 14 that he will seek the leadership of the Liberal Party in Ontario. Deacon, long rumored to be a leading contender for the position made his announcement at a news conference in Toronto's Royal York Hotel. Deacon is currently a member of the Legislature's Select Committee on Economic & Cultural Nationalism and also a member of the Public Accounts Committee. Formerly in the investment business and president of the major corporation, he has been the Liberal Party's critic on economic issues affecting Ontario taxpayers.
