- John White was born in Ireland in 1811. He came to Canada with his mother and step-father in 1823 eventually moving to Halton County. He married Mehitabel Post in 1836 and they had one son. He married a second time in 1849 to Louisa Knight and they had two sons and three daughters. He was a member of parliament, prominent in the Militia, had extensive farm holdings and also involved in the lumber business. He, with his brother, was a prominent horse breeder and their entry won the first ever running the the Queen's Plate. By 1886 Whites' horses had twelve Plate victories.This photograph was taken from "Milton Semi-Centennial 1857-1907".
