Donald Chant, born in Toronto, is the writer or co-author of more than 80 scientific papers and 7 books on the environment, insects and toxicology. Over the past thirty-eight years, he has held positions in the Federal Department of Agriculture, the University of California and the University of Toronto and has served on numerous international, federal and provincial committees and boards associated with agriculture, fisheries, biology, toxicology and environmental protection. A co-founder of Pollution Probe of Toronto, he was also the first Director of the Joint Centre for Toxicology at the University of Toronto and Guelph University. In 1967 he became the Chairman of the Department of Zoology at the University of Toronto, and was Vice-President and Provost of the University of Toronto from 1975 to 1980. Added to his numerous responsibilities as Chairman and President of the Ontario Waste Management Corporation, Dr. Chant is Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Council of the World Wildlife Fund (Canada). He was Chairman of the Canadian Environmental Advisory Council in Ottawa from 1978 to 1981. Dr. Chant obtained university degrees in Zoology at the University of British Columbia (M.A.) and the University of London, England (Ph.D.). Information from "The Nassagaweya News" June 18, 1984.
