Margaret Rasberry operated the Rasberry Nursing Home at 72 Martin Street in Milton from 1933 to 1943 for expectant mothers and patients recovering from minor surgery.
A local doctor, Dr. Keith Stevenson persuaded Margaret to open a nursing home. He and other local doctors had told Margaret that "we can keep you busy if you open such a home." It is interesting that the doctors supported Margaret as a midwife since there had been considerable international controversy (mainly from doctors) just prior to this period about the role and place in society for mid-wives.
